Carp (Code 305) - Cyprinus carpio:
Originally native to Eastern Europe the Carp was probably introduced to this country by monks.
There are several varieties of which the Common Carp is the most widely distributed. Deep bodied fish and up to three feet in length, Carp inhabit slow moving rivers and ponds or shallow lakes, feeding mostly on insect larvae, molluscs and plant food. Spawning takes place in June and July amongst thick weed in shallow water.
