No matter how careful you are it still happens.

Treble sizes 12 to 6.
The simplest, quickest, & least harmful way to remove hooks from deep hooked pikes.

Weather using 1 or 2 trebles, slip trace into slot, keeping trace taut, slide disgorger down into pikes throat until it stops on hook.
Push hook free and withdraw keeping trace taut.
Disgorger boss will keep throat tissues clear of treble point.
When using 2 hooks pull 1st hook clear of throat, slip trace between the two trebles into the slot and repeat the above procedure.

Return the pike quickly and with care to the water, whereupon it can continue to take it's place in the natural balance of it's environment.
John Roberts recommend the use of crushed barbs or barbless hook.
